An ELT Glossary : Mingle Activities

Mingle activities are activities where all the learners in the group are on their feet, circulate, and  briefly speak to all the other members of the group in order to complete a task. A typical mingle activity is a Find Someone Who.... activity.  A variation of this is a "getting to know you" activity for a first lesson. The learners are given a question (or write one themselves) to ask everyone else in the group. Each learner has a different question - eg :

  • Where were you born?
  • What was your favourite subject when you were at secondary school?
  • Do you have any hobbies?
  • What's your favourite TV programme?
They circulate, and ask their question to all the members of the group, then report back to the class on what they found out
